- Unison Colour Michelle Lucking Beach 36 Pastel Set – Capture the Soul of the Sea This collection of 36 soft pastels is personally curated by Unison Colour Associate Artist Michelle Lucking. It is designed for everyone who loves the sea and wants to capture its ever-changing beauty. The Artist, Michelle Lucking Born and educated in the Netherlands, Michelle has always had a close, emotional affinity to water. She was inspired at an early age by the beauty of light reflections on the canal that ran alongside her house. This developed into a deep love of the ocean in her adult years. The Story Behind the Set: As Told by Michelle Lucking ‘I wanted to create a set that you could use in your studio at home, or take to the beach with you. I wanted to make sure that the set allowed as much versatility with the palette as possible: stormy days, azure skies, delicate mornings, or vibrant sunsets, in addition to allowing for all the different sand and pebble beaches. I’ve engineered it loosely so that the top line can be used for skies, the middle line for the sea, and the bottom line for the sand, although these can all be mixed around and interchanged. Of course with the added bonus that the box isn’t too big to take for plein air expeditions!’ – Michelle Lucking What is this set best suited for? This palette is perfect for creating a wide variety of beach and sea landscapes. It is designed to depict: Dynamic Seascapes: From stormy waves to calm, tranquil mornings. The Play of Light: From vibrant sunsets and sunrises to the delicate reflections of light sparkling on the water's surface.Different Types of Beaches: The set includes shades suitable for both golden sandy beaches and rocky pebble shores. Pastel Tips for Seascapes: Layer the Water: Start by painting the depth of the sea with darker blues and greens. Layer lighter turquoises and greys on top to create the illusion of moving water.Create Seafoam: Use the lightest, almost white, pastels with light, "skipping" strokes to create the texture of breaking waves and seafoam. Do not over-blend this part.Capture Sparkling Light: Use the sharp edge of a light yellow or pale blue pastel to add small, bright specks on the water's surface to represent the sparkling sunlight.Build the Sand: Use the earthy tones in layers. Start with a base colour and add specks of other sand colours on top to create a more natural, varied texture instead of a flat surface.
